Star Wars BB-8 Droid by Sphero
First up we have this awesome BB-8 Droid from Star Wars The Force Awakens. R2-D2 may be the original, but kids these days cannot get enough of BB-8. What makes this such a cool robot toy is the “Force Band” this straps to your child’s wrist and with the help of a free app for a smartphone can let them control BB-8!
This is a lot of fun and it is also really well made so you do not worry too much when it crashes into the wall. This does not have a recommended age, but we would suggest that kids aged 6 and over would really get the best out of this.
It is worth noting that there are two versions of this robot. One that comes with the Force Band and one that does not. The one with the force band is around 30 to 40 bucks more expensive.
Zoomer Dino
Kids of all ages love dinosaurs and Zoomer Dino is one of the best robot toys for kids because it provides so much fun. This is quite a large size which will make it very cool for children. It is also very well made and it has this balance technology that makes it very easy for your child to control. They will have this giant T-Rex running around the living room, chasing the cat, dog and probably you as well in no time at all.
Actually, they say that it can be used for kids aged 3 and over, that is how easy it is! At under 100 bucks, this is one of the cheaper, but higher-end radio-controlled robot toys on the market right now.
Imaginext DC Super Friends RC Transforming Batbot by Fisher-Price
Now this is really cool! The Imaginext DC Super Friends RC Transforming Batbot by Fisher-Price is part of the line of DC Super Hero toys from Imaginext. This is made for kids aged 3-8 and lets them not just control a giant Batman robot. It also lets them use it alongside the other DC Imaginext action figures and playsets.
This is very reasonably priced and like the other Imaginext toys this is designed to take a beating. If your child has other DC Imaginext toys or just loves Batman then this would make for a great gift.
MeccaNoid G15 by Meccano
One of the best robot toys for kids that are a little older is the fantastic MeccaNoid G15 by Meccano. Meccano is already great, but this set here lets them build a really cool robot. Now they can follow the instructions and build the robot the way he is on the box. Or they can use their imagination and make their own custom robot who will most likely come to life and take over your house! If that happens do not worry as there is a free app for a smartphone or tablet that lets you control this robot.
This is for kids aged 10 and older and can be quite challenging to build, but that is a huge part of the fun.
Ozobot Programmable Robot Starter Pack
The Ozobot Programmable Robot Starter Pack is a very popular robot that has won numerous robot of the year awards. What is great about this is that it is not only fun to play with. It also teaches your child a little bit about robotics as well as letting them create their own fun games for Ozobot to play. This is just the most basic pack that Ozobot comes in and for under 50 bucks it is not a bad price at all. If your child gets really into it then you can get extra packs that have more parts and games that you can add to Ozobot.
We would suggest that this robot is more for those of you who have kids who are a bit on the creative side. Children aged 6 and up will be able to get to grips with this robot very easily.
WowWee Miposaur
Next up we have the awesome WowWee Miposaur. This robot dinosaur has the look of a Raptor from Jurassic World so it is going to get cool points from the kids before they even open it. What makes this such a popular toy for kids is the control.
You can let Miposaur just run around the living room. Or you can have some very precise control over him. You can clap your hands and he will respond to sound. You can use the app to have some real pinpoint control over him. Or you can have him run around and chase the trackball that comes with the set.
4M Tin Can Robot
Ok, so we know the 4M Tin Can Robot is the weirdest looking robot on this list, but we still feel that it is one of the best robot toys for kids, and at around ten bucks it makes for a great extra gift. This is more of a kit. You see to make this work you need a soda can…. That is right the main body of this robot is made with a soda can.
This can be a lot of fun for your child as it will make them feel that this is their own little creation. It may be basic in what it can actually do, but if you want a robot that is fun and cheap then this is ideal.
Please note though that as you use an actual soda can this is aimed at children aged 8 and up.
Dash Robot by Wonder Workshop
This is one of the most eye-catching toy robots on this list, but the Dash Robot by Wonder Workshop really is just as much fun to play with as it is to look at. This robot comes fully assembled and once you have downloaded the app to a tablet or smartphone it is ready to go.
One thing that we really like about this robot is the way that it comes with no instructions. That is right, you learn by playing and the app has all kinds of fun tutorials that will teach your child how to use Dash Robot. This is a fantastic idea and much better than having you read the instruction book to them.
This is aimed at kids aged 8 and up, but honestly, we feel that kids as young as 6 could have fun with this.
Thinkgizmos Remote Control Shooting, Dancing and Talking Robot
The first thing you notice about the Thinkgizmos Remote Control Shooting, Dancing, and Talking Robot is the way it has that classic 70’s and 80’s robot look. This is a lot of fun and comes with a remote control so no need for an app.
This robot can do all the things that you expect from a toy robot. He can walk around, he can make loud noises, he can even get down and bust a move. But best of all, this robot actually has some firepower and can shoot foam discs! There is not a kid alive who would not find this awesome.
Also at under 50 bucks, this is much more affordable than some of the other robots on this list. Children as young as 3 will easily be able to have fun with this robot.
ZOOB Bot by ZOOB BuilderZ
At right around $15 you could make the argument that the ZOOB Bot by ZOOB BuilderZ is one of the best deals on this list. This comes with 54 different pieces, 54 different pieces that your child can use to make their dream robot, their dream robot that can take over the house!
This is a fantastic robot if your child is creative. Not only will they have fun they will also be learning basic robotics as they do. Now this is one of the more basic robots on this list. But the fun it offers is just off the charts. They can test the different robots they make to see what is faster, stronger and just in general, more cooler. Aimed at kids who are 6 years old and up Zoob Bot is a great way to not only let your child have fun, but also help their creative spark.
Kidsthrill Dancing Robot
Kidsthrill Dancing Robot is an adorable robot that we feel is more aimed at younger kids who are happy to just watch and clap along with a toy than actually control it. This adorable little guy will have your child in stitches as he dances, spins around and even makes his head go up and down.
He also makes a ton of noises and has big flashing lights so while the kids are having a lot of fun, you will be sat in the corner praying for the batteries to run out!
In all seriousness this is a great robot toy and while more basic than some of the other robots on this list for a child aged 3-5 this would be a lot of fun and be a great little friend for them.
Cozmo One Of The Best Robot Toys For Kids
Last, of all we have Cozmo. Cozmo is just flat-out awesome and is the kind of robot that was in movies in the ’80s which would come to life. This is as close to a real-life, self-aware robot as you are going to get. Cozmo has a personality he can be curious, he can be playful, he can be shy. The more time you spend with him the more he will adapt to your own personality.
It really is incredible stuff and seeing him get curious about something and go and check it out is a sight to behold.
Cozmo is also one of the more expensive robots on this list starting at around $180. There really is no limit to the things Cozmo can do and the free app that helps you play with him let’s you get up to all kinds of shenanigans.
This really is one of the best robot toys for kids, but we would advise that it is not really for kids younger than 6.
